what to substitute dandelion root with

by Catherine
(Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario)

My health food store is out of dandelion root. what would be a good substitute for putting in the detox tea?
thanks

Answer: Dandelion root is a great detoxifying herb for your liver and very nourishing during your detox. If you don't have it, then double up on the burdock root which is also supportive of your digestion and make sure to include your nettles for liver support.

Dandelion leaves may also be used and can be purchased dry, but they are not nearly as potent as the root thus they are less often used medicinally. They are still very nourishing and do support the liver. If you find fresh organic dandelion leaves, they are fantastic in green smoothies and great during your detox.

It would be a good idea to order your dandelion root online... the source we recommend is Mountain Rose Herbs. These are the freshest, most potent organic herbs that we know of, aside from gathering your own. Many professional herbalists use this reliable source.
