Substitute sesame seeds for flax in crackers?

by erinpaone
(callie)

Can I substitue a cup of seseame seeds in the flax seed cracker recipe? And is there anything else like olive oil or coconut to keep it from sticking to the pan? I love you women for this beautiful work you are doing and sharing!

Answer: Thank you Erin for your kind words! We love you and ALL of our readers!

The flax crackers are great with some sesame seeds mixed in and 1 cup is a good amount to replace. Sesame seeds add calcium, and they add color variety and flavor variety to your crackers. Of course you need to keep the bulk of the seeds as flax so that they stick together properly. That's the unique property of the flax.

To keep them from sticking to the tray, I use Teflex non-stick sheets and they work the very best. You can order one or more, exactly like mine, at the Raw Food World. These are an investment that will last you forever and come in handy for all of your dried foods. You can use them to line cookie sheets or use them in your Excalibur Dehydrator. I love my dehydrator!

So I haven't ever tried using coconut oil or olive oil, but I think it could work. If you try it, please let us know! Enjoy those flax crackers - they are one of my favorites!!

Healthy Blessings, Cindy
