Master Cleanse Lemonade

You don’t have to be fasting to enjoy the detoxifying and delicious benefits of homemade master cleanse lemonade. Fresh lemonade is a refreshing and tasty detox treat, especially during the summer months.

Lemons and limes are powerfully cleansing foods. Their antiseptic qualities will clear your body of harmful microbes and built up mucous. Lemons and limes alkalize your body, cleanse your blood and stimulate weight loss. They also stimulate the enzyme action needed to clear toxic accumulation from your liver.

Of course, it is also well known that they are an excellent source of vitamin C. When combined with the high vitamin and mineral content of the maple syrup, they make a delicious and nutritious beverage. We recommend using grade B maple syrup. It contains the most nutrients because it is the least filtered version of the syrup.

This beverage is meant to be a pleasurable treat to accompany your whole foods-based detox. As made well known by the master cleanse lemonade diet, this drink has strongly cleansing properties. If you add cayenne pepper for the added zing, it will also intensify the cleansing ability. Cayenne clears mucous and cleanses your blood.

Fasting on this beverage alone, though, may be too extreme for most people. We believe it is essential to take gradual steps in your detox and support your body with detoxifying whole foods and cleansing herbs.

To get the most juice out of your lemons and limes bring them to room temperature first and then roll them under your palm on a flat surface. Cut them in half width-wise and use a citrus juicer to extract their cleansing juices.

Ingredients:

(use organic whenever possible)

1 1/2 cups grade B maple syrup
1 1/2 cups lemon juice
purified water to fill the gallon
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions:

  1. Fill a gallon container about half way with pure clean water.
  2. Add sweetener, lemon juice, and cayenne if desired.
  3. Fill the container the rest of the way with more water.
  4. Put a lid on the container and shake vigorously. Refrigerate to chill before serving or serve over ice.
Makes 1 gallon

Variations:

  • Try using lime juice instead for a zesty Limeade.
  • For a diabetic friendly beverage use liquid stevia concentrate as the sweetener. Add 2-3 teaspoons per gallon or 4 drops per 8 oz glass.
  • If you’d like to add cayenne pepper by the glass, add 1/10th teaspoon per 8 oz of lemonade.
