Is Burdock Leaf the same as Burdock Root?

by Alisha

Last time I picked up my herbs for your Detox Tea recipe the lady accidentally gave me burdock leaf, not root. Is that an acceptable substitute or should I go back and get root?

Answer: Burdock leaf is known for its cooling and soothing properties in the treatment of burns and pain. It is generally used externally in salves, washes and ointments for itchy, irritated skin or burns.

The leaves of the burdock plant do not have the same detoxifying properties of the root. The leaves should not be used as a substitute for the root in our Detox Tea recipe.
