How Much Water to Drink on Cleanse

Hi Jo and Cindy,
According to your formula, I need to drink 3 quarts of water per day to be fully hydrated. Since I am doing the cleanse and drinking 2 quarts of detox tea, can I reduce the amount of water? What do you think is optimal?

This is a great question about water.... I know when I drink a lot of green smoothie and detox tea, it's hard to fit in pure, fresh water as well. The goal is to stay very well hydrated and flush out your organs. The clean, pure water is important for doing this, so it's important to drink as much as you can. Yes, you are getting a lot of hydration from you tea, but you need more than that for this cleanse.
So make the whole 3 quarts of pure water a goal, especially if you are exercising and spending time outdoors. But if you don't get it all in and you're feeling good, then don't stress about it - you are probably still well hydrated.
I'll share a story that may help. When I lived in Africa my villagers never SIPPED water and they laughed at me when I did. Instead they would walk 2 hours in the hot sun, carrying heavy loads to market, and not drinking a single sip of water (they didn't even bring it with them). Then they would go straight to the well or pump at market and literally guzzle 2 full quarts when they got there!
So for them it was very utilitarian - they didn't waste much time around it. They just stopped at the filling station and FILLED themselves with water. Now this may not be what we need to do - drinking more often is probably better for assimiliting it. But perhaps we would all be better hydrated if we did train ourselves to guzzle a quart of water!
Remember, if you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. We have to be proactive to stay fully hydrated. Many Westerners go through life feeling cranky and out of sorts - all from being chronically dehydrated.
So again, don't stress about it, but drink as much of the allotted amount as you can and monitor how you are feeling. If you feel detox symptoms, drink more. Hope this helps!
