Homemade chicken broth during detox?

by Catherine
(Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario)

Hi~
Is there any reason why I shouldn't add homemade chicken broth to the soups in your recipe booklet?

Answer: Each person's detox plan is different and so using the chicken broth may be appropriate for you. If your focus is to take a break from fake foods or from your sugar, wheat or dairy intake then it's not necessary to worry about chicken broth for now. In fact, a homemade chicken broth made from organic chicken may be a great strengthening and soothing support during your detox.

It is especially important, however, that you use organic chicken to avoid the chemicals that come with conventionally raised chicken. Today's meat from large industry farms is laden with hormones, antibiotics and other artificial substances. Some processors even bleach the chicken meat to sterilize it and bleach is a known neurotoxin. All of this presents a great toxic burden at a time when you are working to cleanse these types of waste products from your body.

If, however, someone is intending to eliminate all animal products during their detox then chicken broth would definately be out. Someone who is regularly eating a natural whole foods diet without sugar, wheat or dairy may want to take the next step of eliminating all animal products. In this case, taking a break from meat, eggs and fish lightens the load on the liver and allows for deeper cleansing.
