Guided Detox Testimony and Coconut Oil

by Kate
(Mass)

Hi Jo and Cindy -
I'm grateful for the group process during this detox - yesterday's conference call helped strengthen my motivation, as well as this morning's journal quote - "The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." Good medicine...
I have been experiencing two days of mild headache I think from going off coffee. I ordered the maca powder but will have to wait for it. No problem. But I'd like to try to make either the cacao fudge or the banana bread for a treat, and wonder if there is a substitution for coconut oil used in both. I have been following the D'Adamo eat right for your bloodtype diet for about three years with good results, and this is one of my "avoid" oils.

Also I have found that the shopping preparation beforehand and the meal menu planning to be great supports. Part of my problem has been with not planning ahead, and then after work at the end of the day, being too tired and unmotivated to want to cook something nutritious. I like the graphic format of your 7-day menu planner in the deluxe program, and wondered if you would consider making available a blank form that we could print off the computer. I'm already thinking ahead about how to keep this up once the detox is over.

Also the journal was just the support I needed this morning when I woke up head-achy and unmotivated and slightly anxious. I sat outside in the sun with my breakfast and journal and felt through your questions and my answers that my momentum was returning and more clarity as to why I wanted this for myself.

Last year I downloaded your free kit, but didn't go ahead with the detox until I received your invitation to do it with the group. I will share this with others, as I feel your program's philosophy is intelligent, safe, and supportive.

I look forward to our next call on Thursday. Kate

Answer: Thank you for sharing your story so far Kate! This is very inspiring and will hopefully encourage other readers to commit to a program and use the tools.

The oil question is a tough one and I think you'll have to go with your best instinct on it. If you read our page on healthy oils there are few best choices but coconut is best for baking. Grapeseed Oil is a good choice for it's neutral flavor and ability to withstand high heat, but it is a refined oil. If you use it make sure to find expeller-pressed oil.

Many of the unrefined oils are not stable for high-heat cooking. So for you a high quality refined oil, like grapeseed or even ghee, might be a good choice. Ghee is butter that has been clarified, that is heated until the milk solids are boiled off. It is very stable at high temperature. Pure ghee is a saturated fat but it is non-hydrogenated and cleaner than butter or refined vegetable oils.

For the cacao fudge, that is not cooked... so perhaps you can use a high quality unrefined artisan oil like walnut oil, flax seed oil, or hemp oil. Your choice will depend most on the flavor you prefer. Make sure these are from a high quality source, unrefined and preferable organic.

Enjoy the rest of your process and we'll hear you on the call tomorrow! Thanks for all your hard work and your willingness to share your experience with others!

P.S. On the menu planner suggestion - thanks for that. Look back at your Free Start Up Kit and see if the menu planner form included there is what you are thinking would be helpful. If not, let us know a little more about what you envision. Great suggestion - we'll look closer!
