Raw Garlic Spread

garlic spread Talk about immune boosting, cleansing power! This delicious raw garlic spread is food and medicine. If you like the taste of garlic and your body doesn’t react adversely to it (see below for symptoms), this garlic spread will make a great condiment for your detox.

Spread it on gluten free, sprouted or whole grain toast for a quick detox snack. Scoop it up with cucumber slices, carrot stick, celery, bell peppers, endives or other fresh veggies. Or mix it into your whole grain or vegetable dishes for extra flavor. Any way you choose to use this versatile garlic spread, it will benefit your detox.

Garlic is one of the best detox foods on the planet. For thousands of years it has been successfully used as a powerful infection fighter. It contains allicin, a natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal substance that helps your body stay strong and ward off infections. Along with the rest of the onion family, it will help to remove heavy metals and parasites from your system. Garlic is also known for clearing arteries, lowering cholesterol and preventing cancer.

Although garlic is good for many people, it’s not good for everyone. This is another example of how bioindividuality works. One person might thrive on garlic while another experiences uncomfortable reactive symptoms. Eating garlic increases heat and digestive fire in your body. This can be helpful for those with weak digestion but not for those who already experience excess heat in their system.

In the Ayurvedic tradition of India, garlic is considered rajasic, or overly stimulating. If you experience heartburn, indigestion and abdominal pain when you eat garlic, it may be promoting too much digestive fire (stomach acid). If you normally lead a quiet or meditative life and your mind becomes agitated when you eat garlic, it may be too stimulating for you. People with ulcers may also want to avoid garlic until they have healed.

Ingredients:

(use organic whenever possible)

6-8 cloves of raw garlic
½ cup pinenuts
juice of ¼ lemon
1 teaspoon dried basil
sea salt and black pepper to taste
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
Directions:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a spice or coffee grinder or a food processor with a small bowl attachment.
  2. Blend until smooth.

Serves 2

  • This may also be prepared with roasted garlic for a milder, sweeter flavor.
