Eggs during Detox?

by Catherine

Hi there. What about eggs and detoxing/cleansing? Should one keep away from them too? I'm a mostly vegetarian/vegan, so eggs are one of the 'heavier' things on my digestion that I eat.
Thanks, Catherine

Answer: This is a great question Catherine and we addressed it for you on our teleclass this week so we hope that helped! For you, we recommend not including eggs in your detox because you are already eating a plant-based diet without many animal products. So as you said, eggs are a heavier food and thus take more work to digest. By eliminating them for a week or more you will give your body a break from digesting animal proteins. It will be nourished instead emphasize by highly cleansing plant foods.

Now this may not be true for everyone. If someone is eating a lot of animal products - dairy, meat, etc. - then cutting back to just high quality eggs might be a good balance during their detox. They will still initiate a cleansing response in the body by eliminating the mucus-creating dairy and meats.

Another very important factor is to consider the source and quality of any food we put in our body. Eggs that come from factory production, even the organic ones, are not ideal. The chickens are not living in a natural and healthy environment. Eggs are highly nourishing foods when they come from chickens who are raised happy and healthy - roaming free, eating grass, without added hormones, antibiotics, vitamins, etc.

Even the mass produced organic and free range eggs are less than ideal compared to chickens kept on local farms where they truly have enough sunlight, air, space and natural foods. The laws governing "Free Range" do not require the amount of freedom, space and outdoor access that traditional farms know are required for optimal health in chickens.
