Dry Skin Brushing questions

by Julie

Hi,

I read an article about dry skin brushing and had a quick question about it. If I dry skin brush but don't shower after, would it be more harm done than good? Also, I am a swim teacher so am in the water almost every day. If I dry skin brush, then go to work and get into a pool with chlorine is that bad?

Thanks,
Julie

Answer: Hi Julie, Thanks for sending in your question about dry skin brushing.

Dry Skin Brushing has many benefits for your internal systems as well as for your skin. Even if you can't shower right after it can still be very beneficial. Although you will have loosened up lots of toxins and dead skin cells. In place of a full shower you may just want to wipe down with a warm, wet face cloth to wipe away all that you've stirred up.

Chlorine has many harmful effects on life forms. It's main quality (and the reason it is used in public pools and water supplies) is that it kills harmful bacteria and pathogens. But the trouble is that it is an indiscriminant killer. Chlorine attacks all life, including the life in your cells.

This is one of the reasons that constant or long term exposure to chlorine effects skin and hair negatively. Dry skin and brittle hair are a result of dying cells.

As far as we know, Vitamin C can be used to neutralize chlorine. It is often used in household water filters and it is a common ingredient in body care products. To help protect your skin while you're at work you could moisturize with a lotion that contains Vitamin C. Make sure it is an all natural product, free from harmful toxins. Solay Wellness has a wide variety of natural bodycare products.

Getting water filters for your drinking supply and your home shower would also be good ways of reducing your exposure to chlorine. Dry brushing, showering in filtered water and moisturizing with a Vitamin C lotion may be a great after work routine.

Remember, chlorine exposure is not just skin deep. Protecting yourself from chlorine is essential for the health of your internal organs as well and will help you have a healthier, longer life.
