We are very excited to introduce you to a phenomenal leader in the field of natural medicine. Dr. Group has an impressive list of credentials including being a Naturopathic Physician, Doctor of Chiropractic, a Certified Nutritionist, a Certified Herbalist and is even an Ordained Minister – Wow!

But that is not what impressed us the most about Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, ND, DACBN, DABFM. We admire his simple, down to earth philosophy that puts healing back into the hands of the individual.

Dr. Group is dedicated to sharing the truth about health and taking power back from the pharmaceutical industry. He demonstrates clearly in his research that the root cause of all disease stems from the accumulation of toxins in the body. His teachings are simple and he has healed hundreds of people from all types of degenerative disease.

WBDD: What inspired you to become a Naturopathic Physician, Doctor of Chiropractic and a proponent of natural healing?

Dr. Group: I come from a family that was allopathically trained and I started studying medicine at an early age. I was taught that pharmaceutical drugs were the answer in treating disease. I was also taught that natural medicine was quackery.

Then I met an alternative medicine cancer doctor who was getting good results. I questioned him and basically called him a quack. He challenged me to prove to him that pharmaceutical drugs actually do the body good. Well I drove to the library as I already had a background in chemistry and biochemistry and spent the next 6 hours finding out he was right. These drugs did nothing but suppress a function in the body or cover up a symptom. This is what inspired me and I then devoted my life to actually healing patients using natural methods by training in Chiropractic and naturopathic methods.

Our current health care system focuses on treating the symptoms of disease and not the root cause of disease. People are not being taught why they have the disease in the first place and how to eliminate it properly. Also, doctors are not being taught in medical schools the importance of disease prevention; they are taught what medication they should prescribe to cover up the symptoms of disease. Because of this I have devoted my life to teaching people the root cause of disease and how to activate their own self healing mechanism.

WBDD: How has your experience with military service and the martial arts informed your practice of natural healing?

Dr. Group: In the military I learned how bad the food was and the chronic cases of constipation which affected practically every soldier. You would think that our soldiers would receive good healthy food, but this was not the case. I also learned that we should be focusing more on peace than war and nobody should ever kill another human being. The martial arts helped me focus energy within and taught me discipline as well as how to use my body and skills to increase my flexibility and overall health using natural methods.

WBDD: When and how did you discover the link between food, detoxification and healing from disease?

Dr. Group: In 1998 after studying natural methods extensively I realized that the intestines are actually the first point of attack for virtually all disease-causing agents. These toxins make their way into the bloodstream through the intestinal lining, subsequently overworking the immune system and vital organs. This process I found was the origin of the “dis-ease” mechanism.

Parasites, toxins from food, toxins from water, toxins from heavy metals, toxins from milk, soft drinks, coffee, alcohol, and drugs enter the body through the intestinal lining! The intestinal lining is exposed to millions of toxins everyday! After discovering this we were successful in helping people eliminate their health problems by cleansing and detoxifying the body.

WBDD: What do you feel is lacking in today’s conventional healthcare system?

Dr. Group: We have the best medical system in the world for acute injuries and life saving emergency techniques. However, where the current healthcare system fails is in the management of disease. This is because pharmaceuticals are synthetic and designed to address the symptoms of disease and not the root cause. Unnecessary medical procedures and prescriptions account for close to 800,000 American deaths annually.

It’s discouraging how many Americans are taking drugs that they really don’t need, instead of using natural methods to address the root cause of their health problems. Pharmaceutical companies have an overwhelming influence over medical schools and doctors. As long as doctors are trained to prescribe a medication to cover up a symptom then the pharmaceutical companies cash in on all the profits while the patient suffers.

If doctors were taught how to prevent disease then the pharmaceutical companies would go out of business. Hopefully in the future, doctors will be taught to educate their patients as to the root cause of disease and how cleansing the body and living environment in which they live, can activate the body’s own self-healing mechanisms.

The solution is addressing the root cause of health problems which is due to an overload of toxins entering the body through the environment we expose ourselves to. Reducing this daily toxin load by addressing the root cause of disease leads to the prevention and elimination of disease. Learning to live a healthier, less toxic lifestyle and regularly cleansing your body is the solution. Doctors need to be taught cleansing techniques and educate their patients in disease prevention.

WBDD: What is the role of nutrition and diet in maintaining optimal health and healing?

Dr. Group: This is very important because most of the toxins which enter the body come from toxic foods and poor nutrition. For optimal health, I recommended foods should be certified organic or locally grown. Because they are not processed or treated (just gathered and cleaned), they provide the natural enzymes necessary for healthy digestion.

If you were not raised on raw organic vegetables or foods, it may be difficult for you to make the transition from cooked, fried, and processed foods. Take it slowly and start by eating fresh fruit for breakfast every morning. After you've done that for a week or so, start eliminating one toxic food plus one toxic beverage every week until you have accomplished the goal of reducing your daily "toxic threshold." This process might take you 3 to 6 months, depending on how strict you are in following the plan.

In my book The GREEN Body Cleanse, I explain precisely how to eliminate toxins from the foods you eat and the beverages you drink. I recommend eating 5 small meals daily to help regulate your metabolism and keep your body clean. This might sound difficult, but when you think about it, it takes just a minute to peel and enjoy a banana or eat a handful of seeds or nuts.

Another key component of proper nutrition and diet is to eat slowly and chew your food until it is a liquid-pulp before swallowing. This will allow your stomach to signal your brain, "hey I'm full now," so you avoid taking in excessive calories. You produce up to 32 ounces of saliva every day. Chewing your food will help your body absorb vital nutrients more thoroughly and rapidly due to the enzymes secreted in your saliva. After food is liquefied in the mouth, the tongue will recognize the various flavors of each food and then send messages to the brain (which in turn orders production of the corresponding digestive juices needed to break down that food). Chewing your food well ultimately leads to more effective digestion and proper nutritional balance and is also one of the best-kept secrets for losing weight.

WBDD: Why is cleansing and detoxification important? How often should it be practiced?

Dr. Group: The majority of the disease causing toxins come from food, beverages, air, water, medications, microbes, physical and emotional stress, heavy metals and EMF radiation. Over the last 100 years mankind has polluted our environment with harmful chemicals, additives and practically everything else we’ve been able to get our hands on while we just stood around watching, thinking “Well nothing is going to happen to me.” Well, think again.

Our bodies are and have been absorbing this toxic pollution. And the harsh reality is one out of every two people suffer from some form of poor health. Cleaning our internal body and our living environment is the only solution we have to obtain true health and happiness. I have personally witnessed people eliminating practically every disease from their bodies and regain superior health after thoroughly cleansing internally and also detoxifying the environments in which they live.

I believe intestinal cleansing should be performed at least 2 times per week and only with an oxygen based cleanser. I also recommend people new to cleansing start with 3 back to back liver and gallbladder cleanses, a parasite cleanse as well as a chemical and heavy metal cleanse. People should also cleanse their living environments. These should be performed at least 2 times per year in my opinion.

WBDD: What do you recommend as some of the critical aspects of cleansing the internal body?

Dr. Group: The absolutely most critical part of cleansing is the intestinal tract, which should be cleansed at least 2 times weekly. I estimate over 90% of all the toxins you take in enter through the intestinal lining. This means disease starts in the digestive tract and health begins in the digestive tract.

By cleansing the intestines on a regular basis you prevent the disease causing toxins from entering the body. This addresses the root cause of disease. In 15 years, I have not experienced or heard of anyone that did not improve in one way or another after regular cleansing of their body, changing their diet and reducing their daily exposure to toxins. We all have the power within our own body to heal any ailment we may suffer from and the answer is as simple as internal cleansing.

WBDD: What is the role of supplementation in a healthy diet? Is it really necessary?

Dr. Group: In a perfect world where people have their own organic gardens and pick and eat their food fresh and ripe there would be no need for supplementation. However, in the current toxic world I believe people do need supplementation, but not a lot.

On another note, the majority of the supplements available today are cheaply made and may do more harm than good. When choosing supplements make sure they use organic herbs or ingredients, are free from any fillers, binders, glues or toxic substances and are contained in safe vegetarian capsules. When people maintain a clean body, they should only need a good vitamin and mineral supplement. I personally use the product IntraMax.

WBDD: Why is organic important? Do you believe organic produce provides more nutrients than conventional produce?

Dr. Group: Organic foods are important because they are free from toxins such as pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, and other chemicals. Organic fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and sprouted grains always provide the most nutrition to the body. It may be difficult to make the transition from cooked, fried and processed foods so I recommend starting slowly by eating fresh fruit for breakfast every morning. After that, start eliminating one toxic food every week until you have accomplished the goal of reducing your daily toxin intake. Without a doubt organic foods contain more nutrients and cleaner water within them. This has been denied by conventional growers but organic growing methods not only reduce the potential toxic content of foods but also contain a better synergetic balance of nutrients.

WBDD: What final tips would you offer for those who are interested in taking their health to the next level?

Dr. Group: The first step in taking health to the next level is cleansing the body of years of toxic abuse. Constipation is a problem for one out of three people in America! Most people have only two bowel movements a week! Can you imagine the amount of toxins leaking into the bloodstream from a polluted colon that only has two bowel movements a week?

A healthy person should have three to four bowel movements daily. Look at the animal kingdom. For every meal consumed, birds, horses, cows etc. have corresponding bowel movements. Even the Earth cleanses itself regularly with rain, snow, wind, lightning etc. Humans should be no different. With the technology we have today regular colon cleansing only involves taking a few capsules one to three times weekly. How easy is that?

The second step is educating them on what is causing poor health and how to pay attention to what their body is telling them. When people experience negative symptoms, their body is trying to tell them that something is wrong inside and needs to be addressed. The last thing the body wants is a medication to cover up the symptom so they don’t feel it anymore. That’s exactly why I wrote a book to teach people in a step by step process how to change their lives and take back responsibility for their health.
