Detoxing Liver with lemons
by Winsome

I am suffering with NASH, a liver condition in which I have Cirosis in part of my liver. There has been no known cause for this after many tests, and I have had it for some years.
I actually have an "addiction" to lemons of which I consume one or two every day. I had a break of a few months when I didn't feel the need to eat them, then it started again, I have now found out that lemons are good for your liver, and am wondering if you can have too much of a good thing, as I also add lemon to my other food and drinks to add a citrusy taste which I enjoy. Could you please advise me as to whether I should ease up a bit or go ahead and enjoy my lemons.
I have a cholesterol level of 3.5 at the moment and I have never suffered with high cholesterol in my life. I also have dodgy kidneys because I am diabetic also. And to add to that, I have had 2 heart valve replacements and one valve repair 2 years ago. No other heart disease though apparently. I hope you can help me with some advice. Winsome
Answer:Hi Winsome, Thank you for your question and for sharing some of your story. It sounds to me like your first hand experience is speaking pretty clearly to you about the benefits of lemon.
Lemons are a wonderfully cleansing food and very supportive to liver health. If you find your body craves them and feels better when you include them in your diet it sounds like they are the right food for you. Continue to pay attention to how you feel. Your body will guide you, if you let it.
According to Jethro Kloss in
Back to Eden, "Lemons assist in cleansing the system of impurities. The lemon is a wonderful stimulant to the liver and is also a solvent for uric acid and other poisons.”
Lemons also contain high amounts of Vitamin C, which is needed to produce glutathione, an antioxidant used to neutralize toxins and help the liver with its detox work. Fresh, raw lemon juice is also the absolute best raw material from which the liver can make new enzymes. Follow this link to read more about

Although lemons may be a powerful aid for you at this time there are many other foods, herbs and modalities that could help you in supporting your overall health. With the compounded health conditions you described it is essential to take a holistic approach and provide your body with the nourishing tools it needs. And, it's not as hard as it sounds. Gaining a simple understanding of what the body needs and making a commitment to provide it in the best (and yummiest) way are the first steps to take.
