Detox while Nursing

by Kelly
(College Park, Maryland)

I want to do a detox however I am currently nursing and I am concerned with the toxins that are released during a typical detox. While your program does seem gentle are there any tips that I should take into consideration before I begin? My desire is to get more energy and eat healthier, with a goal of increasing my raw food intake to 60-75%.

Thanks for your help.

Answer: Congrats on looking into a gentle detox for you that will also be safe for your baby. We have had nursing moms participate in our gentle method of detox with great results.

I would suggest that you look at a couple of the previous questions on the Ask Us page and you will see several questions that we've addressed about nursing and using our detox program, particularly the use of our detox tea. Take a look there and then let us know if you have further questions!

We would love to have your join us on our Guided Spring Cleanse in May. In that setting we can help you with guidelines and answering any questions that arise.

To Your Health,
Cindy

Thank you for your timely response. I checked out the info in the answer section and did in fact find it very helpful. I guess my biggest question is this, since I have never done a detox, what does it mean to do it "gentle"? I do not know how to detox to begin with and I fear the release of those strong toxins into my system and therefore my milk and ultimately to my son. Thanks for your help. Have a wonderful and prosperous day!

Hi Kelly -

You are so right to be concerned. What we mean by a gentle detox is to simply remove a few items from your diet at a time and to add in a few supporting items for your organs. It is not extreme because you will still get plenty of nourishment and your body will only let go of the amount of toxins that your liver and gall bladder can handle... your body will escort the toxins out through all your elimination organs slowly and effectively. That is the goal.

Your body is already releasing some toxins from eating your normal diet, breathing our air, and drinking maybe city water. If you eat a standard diet your body may also be craving missing nutrients while getting too many empty calories with lots of toxins. All of this goes to your breastmilk already. By cleaning up your diet, slowly and gently, you may very well be increasing the supportive nutrients your son gets and decreasing the toxic load!

There may be some days that he does get more of the released toxins, but combined with the right nutrients, herbs and your good feelings about taking good care of both of you, he will reap the benefits!!

So it is important that you feel good about it - stress creates toxins that are perhaps of the worst type for both of you! So our goal would be to make sure you feel supported, encouraged and safe. Our guidelines and approach provide that container and we will be hear to address any concerns that arise. I hope this helps!
