Detox Tea Herbs - leaf? root? quantities?

by Eileen

Thanks so much for everything! I am wanting to order the supplies from Mountain Rose Herbs but am a little confused. For Nettles, do I want the leaf or the root? For the thistle do I want the seed or the powder? For dandelion do I want the roasted or organic root? Burdock--root or seeds? Which licorice?

And what quantity would I need for say, 2 weeks? 4 oz? 8 oz? Thanks, there are a lot of choices and it is a little confusing.

Answer: Those are great questions! There is a great deal of variety at Mountain Rose Herbs, but you can be sure they are all high quality.

For your detox tea, you want nettle LEAF, thistle SEEDS (then grind slightly in coffee grinder), dandelion organic root (not roasted), and burdock ROOT. I like the regular "licorice organic" - it comes in small chunks - but last time they were out of that and we ordered the "slices" - those worked just fine too.

When in doubt, use whole herbs and spices for your teas (like the whole cinnamon sticks). Ground, powdered herbs are less potent and will not steep and strain properly.

The 4 oz bag of each should get you through at least one week... but if you want to be certain you have enough for 2 weeks or more, we recommend ordering 8 oz of each. And they do last for a while, so you can always store extra until your next detox phase or to use as needed.
