Detox and Nursing?

by Theresa

I am a full time nursing mother who is fed up with being overwieght and unhealthy. I gained over 80lbs with this pregnancy and I am just always hungry. Can your program help someone like me?

Answer: Theresa - the Whole Body Detox Diet is perfect for you because it is gentle and safe. You will want to tailor it to your specific needs and take it very slowly so that you get all the nutrients you need and so you don't detox too quickly, sending excess toxins into your breastmilk. If you keep it gentle, it won't starve you or put your baby at risk.

Pregnant and nursing moms should never fast or follow extreme diets because these approaches will stir up stored toxins too quickly. These released toxins will travel to the baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, if you feel unhealthy now and are eating poorly, this is affecting your baby as well. Toxins from foods you are currently eating may be passed on to your baby. As well, the emotional stress of not feeling well or healthy also creates toxins that impact your baby.

You do not want to lose weight too quickly while nursing because quick weight loss means lots of toxins released from your fat stores. So make it your goal to simply clean up your diet by eating more nutrient-dense foods. Replace toxic food in your diet with more nutritious detox foods. Use our recipes to create your meals and focus on our healthy snacks when you are hungry.

You are probably hungry all the time because your body is starving for more nutrients. It is very possible to be overweight and undernourished simply from eating high calorie, low nutrient-rich foods. So the key is making each food you eat count toward your nutrition and to read labels (or avoid labels altogether!) so that you are eliminating toxins. "Nutrient-dense" foods like nuts, whole fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy oils, and especially greens and superfoods, are very satisfying and full of the nutrients your body is craving. Green smoothies are a fantastic way to deliver power-packed nutrition into your body. Many people have lost weight and healed nagging aches and pains simply from adding a quart of green smoothie to their daily diet.
