Mid-Winter Health and Support
February 26, 2011
Hello

Happy Mid-Winter!

This winter has brought some crazy weather all over the world, including heavy snows across the Northern Hemisphere and outrageous fluctuations in temperature! We hope this newsletter finds each of you in good health, comfort and happiness.

Mid-winter is a great time to remind ourselves to our commitment to health. As the winter calls us inward this can be a time of struggle and hardship or it can be a time of nourishing creativity and restoration. This is a great time to enjoy the simple rhythms of self care and to delve into creative projects.

So here at WBDD we’ve been doing just that. In January we facilitated two successful Holiday Recovery Group Detoxes with participants from all over the US. We also have developed a whole new way for you to receive detox help from us! We’re excited to introduce our Personal Detox Support programs and consultations (read more below). We’re also putting more energy into further developing the site and getting ready for this Spring’s guided cleanses.

It’s such a pleasure to be on this healing journey with all of you!!

Healthy Blessings, Cindy and Jo

Personal Detox Support…just for you.

More and more in my (Jo’s) Holistic Health Counseling practice I’m hearing stories of people who are suffering from toxin-related health conditions. Everything from depression to heart disease. And the number one form of support offered to all of these people is medication…which, of course, equals more toxins.

Before accepting medications or before even getting to the point where you may need them, consider cleaning up your diet and lifestyle. Conscientious natural detoxing is a safe, affordable way to take your health into your own hands and avoid the need for most (if not all) medications.

Most diseases or nagging health condition can be cleared up with intentional adjustments to your diet and lifestyle. And most of us just need a little help to know how to do this; simple, easy to understand common sense information and appropriate guidance. We can be healthy. We can undo the damage. We just need to know how.

Because we believe this so deeply and we’ve enjoyed working with many of you on guided group detoxes, we’ve decided to offer a more in depth and personalized approach. Our new Personal Detox Support programs and consultations are designed to walk you through a successful detox with lots of support and guidance that is directed toward your personal needs.

If you’ve been putting off doing your detox because you’re not sure where to begin, don’t have the time to read through all of our material or have a specific health condition that you’re not sure how to deal with, this is the solution for you. A little extra professional help could go a long way. Each program starts off with a personal detox assessment in which we can talk about your unique needs and concerns. These new personal guided detoxes also include a complete detox plan that we’ll write up specifically to meet your personal needs. We’ll create a plan just for you, taking into account your detoxing experience, budget, likes/dislikes and time you have available. We’ll also be able to check in personally during the detox to help you transition smoothly off the detox.

If you have a special health condition like diabetes or eczema and you want extra support for detoxing safely and effectively this is a great choice for you. We’ll be able to truly assess your situation and recommend the approaches, foods and herbs that will be most helpful in your detox. A well-designed detox can cause a major shift in these stubborn conditions. Often, they just hold on because of toxic overload. Once you clean up enough they can start to find their way back to balance.

We’re looking forward to helping you cleanse your life and come back into vibrant wellbeing. Read more about our Personal Detox Support programs and let us know if you have any questions!

Special Detox Tip: Healing Herbs for Immune Support

This winter we’ve seen some outrageous changes in temperature and extreme weather all across the northern hemisphere. Here in the Rockies it keeps going all the way from -25 degrees F up to the 50s and 60s F, fluctuating back and forth. With these constant changes in temperature its hard for your immune system to stay strong. I’ve heard from many people all across the US that are struggling with colds, flus and respiratory infections. In times like this it’s important to know who your herbal allies are.

Medicinal herbs are nature’s answer to all that ails you. Herbal remedies can help you stay strong and healthy or help you recover from illness without the side effects or toxic residue of modern chemical medications. Used for thousands of years by people all over the world, the simple remedies that nature provides have many fascinating healing effects now being expounded by modern research.

Here are a few of our favorite herbs to have on hand for this time of year. They can be ordered as tinctures or bulk herbs for tea through our favorite herbal company, Mountain Rose Herbs.

Echinacea Angustfolia - Echinacea is herbal medicine’s first choice of treatment for colds. Stimulating the immune system, the herbs can also be used to treat chronic yeast infections in women and to prevent urinary tract infections in both sexes. Administered in times of need, this helpful ally can assist the body's immune system in treating a wide range of disorders. To date the Echinacea angustfolia is presumed to be more effective than the purpurea or pallida.*

Astragalus - Modern research shows that simple preparations of astragalus as a whole herb stimulate the immune system in several ways. It increases the number of stem cells in bone marrow, and encourages their maturity into active white blood cells. It appears to help signal the white blood cells known as neutrophils to migrate to places they are needed to fight infection. It stimulates the "germ-eating" white blood cells known as macrophages, activates T-cells and natural killer (NIK) cells, and increases the production of immune globulins. Usually taken with a variety of other herbs, astragalus as a whole herb eases chronic respiratory infections, aids in recovery from both cancer and the side effects of cancer therapy, and enhances health in HIV.*

Osha - A native of the higher altitudes of the Rocky Mountains and the Southwest in the USA, the root of the osha plant is a traditional Native American treatment for indigestion and upper respiratory infections. Like its Chinese cousin ligusticum, osha will induce sweating, thought to prevent the development of a full-blown cold or flu. Osha is also used to help coughs become productive.*

Mullein - The soothing mucilages of mullein coat sore throats and make coughing more productive. The German E Commission relates that mullein is good for catarrhs of the respiratory tract and as an expectorant.*

"I am so excited and happy to have found this website, I've been back and forth trying to find a complete yet simple page with real and accessible info about organic food, guidelines, detox etc. Your website has all these and much more. I have made it one of my favorite sites. I admire you both and congratulate you for this great contribution."

~ Lizzette

"I just completed my week and I feel really good. It felt good to completely eliminate all meat, dairy, wheat and refined sugar. I already have a plan to repeat this with two friends over the summer. Thank you, I learned so much."

~ Pharr, Massachusetts

"Creating my own detox plan using your start up kit and recipes helped me kick start my weightloss. During the initial detox I lost 20 pounds! It just slid off...it felt like I wasn’t even trying!! I learned some great new habits during the detox that I kept up with and the weight continued to come off. Now, three months later, I'm 30 pounds lighter, full of energy and feeling so much better. The best part is that it feels like my body is finally clearing out the extra weight and that I'll definitely be able to keep it off."

~ Amanda, Colorado

"Cleanse is going fabulously, thank you. I love the recipes, we are eating well, loving the tea and find the info you've provided really helpful. We are experiencing some detox symptoms and I was happy to see your email with a link to that. Your website is really a wonderful resource, you both have done such a great job at making it accessible. One thing we keep saying is ‘they’ (meaning you two and the website 'voice') are so gentle, so inclusive, so encouraging… Thanks and peace, "
